The Indiana Orthopaedic Hospital is the most technologically advanced facility available for orthopaedic care in the Midwest. The hospital focuses on musculoskeletal care and complex surgical procedures including total joints (hip and knee) and spinal operations. The Indiana Orthopaedic Hospital was built when OrthoIndy physicians saw an increasing need to provide specialized orthopaedic care in a patient-focused environment. Designed by orthopaedic physicians and healthcare architects, the Indiana Orthopaedic Hospital is light, airy and modern. It was built to provide the best musculoskeletal care possible.
In 1962, trauma surgeons, Dr. Donald Blackwell and Dr. F. Robert Brueckmann founded the Blackwell and Brueckmann Partnership. This partnership became the foundation for a unique medical practice that now spans over 40 years. Today, this group is known as OrthoIndy. Within the United States, OrthoIndy ranks among the largest private, full-service orthopaedic groups and is the largest orthopaedic group in Indiana and the Midwest.
Currently the group consists of over 60 physicians, including doctors who specialize in orthopaedics, primary care, physical medicine and rehabilitation, and anesthesiology.
OrthoIndy physicians are actively involved in various aspects of orthopaedic research that is aiding in the enhancement of patient lives around the world. Many OrthoIndy physicians also remain dedicated to the development of new procedures and techniques.
As OrthoIndy continues to grow, the commitment to quality patient care that has served as the foundation of the corporation since 1962 remains firmly intact. What began as a two-physician group dedicated to orthopaedic trauma has evolved into an internationally known consortium of the finest orthopaedic surgeons in the world, delivering the entire range of orthopaedic care.
Building upon OrthoIndy’s continued success and growth in central Indiana, OrthoIndy physicians recognized an increased need to provide specialized musculoskeletal care in a patient focused environment. On that premise, planning and development began for a stand alone, physician owned specialty surgical hospital that is known today as the Indiana Orthopaedic Hospital.
